EVENT DESCRIPTION

Please join the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute (SIYLI) in Berkeley for two full days of personal and professional development focused on building healthy mental habits for sustained high performance and wellbeing. Developed at Google and based on the latest in neuroscience research, the Search Inside Yourself (SIY) program teaches attention and mindfulness training that build the core emotional intelligence skills needed for effective leadership.

We help professionals at all levels adapt, management teams evolve and leaders optimize their impact and influence.

Give us your attention for a few days, and we’ll show you how to focus it for the rest of your life.

Curriculum

The SIY curriculum includes:

  • Neuroscience

  • Mindfulness

  • Emotional Intelligence

  • Leadership

We’ve implemented our programs in dozens of organizations across industries and around the world using highly practical and scientifically proven methods of mental conditioning and attention training that improve overall emotional intelligence and wellbeing, resilience, creativity, communication, productivity and personal and organizational leadership.

SIY = Emotional Intelligence + Mindfulness + Neuroscience

Program Design

Everyone has the capacity to develop and increase wellbeing because wellbeing is a skill, and all skills are trainable.

The highly interactive and experiential program includes the following core components:

  • Overview of the neuroscience of emotion, perception and behavior change

  • Definition of emotional intelligence and its personal and professional benefits

  • Attention training to enable greater emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, self-mastery, motivation and connection with self and others

  • Principles and practices for developing healthy mental habits that accelerate wellbeing, including effective listening, generosity, empathy, communication and social skills

  • Mindfulness and reflection practices that support happiness, thriving and overall wellbeing

  • Exercises include attention training practice, dyad conversations, writing, walking and group conversations

Outcomes

Program Outline

The format is highly interactive and experiential, and the program outline below will give you a sense of the flow of the two days. There is also an optional 28-day challenge following the 2-day program that we'll send as a weekly email to everyone consisting of a set of daly exercises along with a "buddy" that you'll be assigned to at the end of the 2nd day.

When to Arrive

Doors open at 8:30am. We will start the workshop promptly on-time at 9am, so we ask that you arrive a few minutes early to find a seat and settle in.

What to bring & break schedule

  • Please bring a journal and pen for some of the exercises.

  • Please bring a lunch to eat during our 60 minute lunch break from 12:30-1:30pm.

  • We will provide some light snacks and water, coffee, and a variety of teas during the breaks. Please feel free to bring snacks to share.

  • In the mornings there will be one ~15 min break around 10:30am; in the afternoon there will be two 10-15 minute breaks.

  • Each day of the program we plan to end on-time at 5pm.

Steph Stern is Director of Global Expansion at Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute (SIYLI). She has over a decade of program management experience working on energy-efficiency and environmental issues. Before joining SIYLI, she served as a program manager for StopWaste, a local government agency, where she tried to convince people to save energy at home and work. Aaron Culich is a Research Data and Cloud Architect with the Data-Intensive Social Sciences Laboratory (D-Lab) at UC Berkeley, and an elected member of the Leadership Team for the Campus Champions serving research universities across the US. He is currently a Certified Teacher with the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute (SIYLI). He is also a Berkeley City Leader of Sidewalk Talk, a worldwide community listening project, and board member of the Unconscious Bias Project (UBP), to promote the reduction of unconscious bias in academia and beyond.
